Climbing the Eiffel Tower :: Recent Projects
While visiting France in November of 2000, I often took time to just wander, open to photographing whatever might come my way. As I walked around the parks that lead up to the Eiffel Tower, I photographed a young Asian couple on their wedding day being photographed by a professional portrait photographer as well as by the bride's mother, and a group of school children releasing doves at the dedication of a new peace park. As I approached the tower, I noticed what looked like small spiders with shiny heads climbing in amongst the girders, about half way up. As I approached, I saw that the spiders were instead members of the Pompiers-Sapeurs, fire and rescue personnel, evidently training by climbing the tower and rappelling down, only to go back up a different route, all roped together. A most enjoyable way to spend a beautiful day, I'm sure.
